East Central Dollars for Scholars Recipient Spotlight

Hannah Colby, East Central Class of 2011

"I am currently finishing my last semester at North Dakota State University (NDSU). I am excitedly awaiting to graduate on December 19th of 2014 with a B.S. degree in Dietetics.

In November, it was a great pleasure to learn that I was accepted to Iowa State University Distance Dietetic Internship. My internship begins in January of 2015. This type of internship provides me with a variety of rotations in different places including clinical, community and foodservice. The rotation that I am anxiously looking forward to is at Shriners Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. Here I will be given the opportunity to work with pediatrics and childhood obesity which is an area of expertise that I would like to specialize within the field of dietetics.

The Dollars for Scholars has not only helped me immensely in the past with the costs of books and tuition throughout my undergraduate career but also with the application process of my internship. I have a tremendous amount of appreciation toward this foundation for helping me throughout my journey.  With the support of Dollars for Scholars, I am one step closer to attaining my dream of being a Dietitian. Thank you for your contributions and supporting students in our local community, like myself, to grow and to achieve their goals."

Kelsey Ryan, East Central Class of 2013

"Getting into college is the first stressful task that high school students need to achieve. Figuring out how to pay for it is the second task. Sometimes we just need a little help. I am in the Class of 2018 at the University of Minnesota. I am studying apparel design with only 25 other freshmen and I am so grateful to have this opportunity. With a little help, I was able to chase my dreams and even win fan favorite with my friends at a fashion design challenge already this year. Thank you for being that little boost that aspiring students need."

Emmalie Beavens, East Central Class of  2018
