Scholarships offered in 2024
East Central Dollars for Scholars (ECDS) are made possible by the generous financial contributions of community members, business owners, educators, students, alumni, and the work of dedicated ECDS volunteers. Since the class of 1994, more than $100,000 has helped 600 students to continue their education!
East Central Dollars for Scholars Awards ($155,000)… awarded from the proceeds from individual and business contributions. Awards are given to high school seniors and post-secondary students.
Sebald Family Scholarship (2 for $6,000)… awarded annually by Roy and Margaret Sebald and children to help further the education of two deserving seniors.
Gordon Sr. and Irene Britton Scholarship ($2,500)… Gordon and Irene (Ubl) Britton were born and raised in the area and spent their entire married life in Sandstone, raising two children, both Sandstone HS graduates. This award goes to a high school graduate entering the medical field.
East Central Energy Scholarship (3 for $1,500)… awarded to high school graduates who live in households using this energy resource. These scholarships are available as the result of Capital Credits, which have remained unclaimed after several attempts to locate past members of the cooperative.
Roland Theis Memorial Scholarship ($5,000)… awarded by the Theis family in memory of Bud Theis who, as a past school superintendent, devoted most of his life to educating the children of the area.
Chris Thorvig Memorial Scholarship ($5,000)… awarded annually by the Chris Thorvig family to an East Central senior.
Sandstone Quarry Lions Scholarship ($1,000)… awarded by the Sandstone Quarry Lions each year to an East Central senior.
East Central United Educators Union Scholarship ($500)… awarded by ECUE to a senior or postgraduate who is pursuing a career in education.
Askov Commercial Club Scholarship ($1,000)… awarded by the Askov Commercial Club to an East Central senior.
Eugene D. Lourey Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)… awarded by the family of Eugene D. Lourey to an East Central senior or postgraduate.
Northview Bank Scholarship ($1,500)… awarded by the Northview Bank to a high school graduate who is also a Northview Bank member.
Essentia Health Sandstone Scholarship ($1,500)… awarded by the Essentia Health Sandstone.
East Central Sports Booster Scholarship (2 for $500)… awarded by the East Central Sports Booster Club to a graduating senior male and a graduating senior female
Sandstone Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship ($500)… awarded by the Sandstone Area Chamber of Commerce.
Doug Carlson Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)… awarded by the family of Doug Carlson to a senior or postgraduate who is pursuing a career in a field of service or pre-veterinary.
"Forever in Our Hearts" Colton Nelson Memorial Scholarship ($524)… awarded by Carol King to a graduating senior.
210 Gallery Scholarship ($500)… awarded to a senior or postgraduate who has demonstrated a strong likelihood of continuing involvement in the arts.
Allen's Hope Scholarship ($500)… awarded to a graduating senior.
Federated Co-ops, Inc. Scholarship ($2,000)… awarded on behalf of the member-owners to assist students and children with their education and citizenship goals. This is awarded to a high school graduate whose family is also a member of the co-op.
Dr. Paul & Dr. Bridget Dewey Scholarship ($1,000)… awarded to a student planning to enter a career in science, health, or coaching.
Methven Funeral Homes Scholarship ($1,000)… awarded by Methven Funeral Homes to an East Central student or postgraduate entering a business career.
Care Health Scholarship ($250)… awarded by Premier Health Care Management to a graduate or postgraduate who is furthering their education in the healthcare field.
Mary Thorvig Memorial Scholarship ($5,000)… awarded annually by the Chris Thorvig family to an East Central senior or postgraduate.
Dorothy Stockamp Memorial Scholarship (6 for $5,000)… awarded in memory of Dorothy Stockamp a former Askov/East Central business teacher.
Panther Scholarship ($2,500)… awarded to an outstanding graduating senior who is kind, positive, compassionate, and generous by Sandstone High School alumni
American Legion Post #243 Scholarship (3 for $2,000)… awarded to a senior or postgraduate student.
Martha Wallin Memorial Scholarship ($500)… awarded by the Thorvig family in memory of Martha Wallin to a senior or post-graduate student.
Marks Family Scholarship ($2,500)… awarded to a senior or postgraduate student interested in environmental science or teaching.
Jensen Tractor - Jane Jensen Memorial Scholarship ($2,000)… awarded to a senior or postgraduate student.
Kathy Barsness Memorial Scholarship ($2,500)… awarded to a senior or postgraduate student entering a career in education. Sponsored by the Sandstone Women's Golf League and Course.
Renee Eiffler Memorial Scholarship ($2,500)… awarded to a senior or postgraduate student entering a career in education. Sponsored by the Sandstone Women's Golf League and Course.
Richard Ebnet Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)… awarded to a senior or postgraduate student entering a career in education or social work.

Hazel Odeen Olson Memorial Scholarship ($2,500)… awarded to a senior or post-graduate student attending a two-year college
